SCGT 2013 - Part 1: The List


Well, to get the ball rolling I thought obviously have to start somewhere. The recent, world famous, South Coast Grand Tournament took place last week and it seems as sensible a place to kick off as any.

I will cover it in several parts - the list I took (and why), review of games, thoughts on the event overall and thoughts on the list & the meta.


As ever Dan, Wayne and Russ have compiled a thorough comp pack for the event, which traditionally is then used by several events over the course of the year – being tweaked as time passes. This year was a big change up to their traditional packs, and caused an awful lot of head scratching, cursing and general all-round despair – strangely though, I got no sympathy for the harshness of the lizardmen comp… almost like lizards have a reputation or something….

Major problems with this for the lizard lists I wanted to run – seems I hopped onto this scaly bandwagon a year too late! The primary issues were the (pool) cost of multiple Slann, and the heavy-handed restrictions on the amount of mobile/cheap chaff units I was allowed to fit in.
The not-remotely secret (think half the lizardmen armies had him!) answer to the pool choice issues was Tetto’eko instead of a Slann and an Old Blood instead of a second Scar Vet.

General strategy – avoid and kill. With the release of WoC (which were going to be everywhere) there was going to be a surge in armies that want to engage – the only “real” combat units of the lizards – Skrox – need Light magic to function, and even then not sure how good they are vs WoC anyway. I was set on Death, so that was never an option. Banehead + Death is fantastic, and the Purple Sun FAQ blocking movement makes it a fantastic spell. Flee, flee, magic and shoot was the order of the day….

Not sure why people don’t like facing lizards….
